So, we have reluctantly left Hua Hin for our home for the next couple of nights – the St Regis in Bangkok. We booked the St Regis chauffeur that would take us to Bangkok as the journey is about 3 hours by road and we wanted a bit of comfort. Comfort it was! We had a Mercedes S300 car (almost brand new) with all mod cons including DVD screens and comfortable leather seats.

Three hours later, we arrived at the doors of the St Regis. As we arrived, our butler (yes, butler!) called PK met us at the door and escorted us straight up to our room and checked us in within the room. She also asked what hot drinks we wanted and brought us up a latte and filter coffee. This service was offered by the butler the whole time we stayed there. She also unpacked all our cases whilst we went out and about to explore Bangkok.
First thing on our agenda was the MBK centre. This is the ultimate mall to go shopping in if you like designer goods at a very reasonable price. They had a wide range of items and it was a really good atmosphere to walk around in.

The traffic in Bangkok is horrendous at all times. Mainly at a standstill. So it was a real godsend that the Ratchadamri Skytrain station was attached to the hotel lobby area of the hotel. The skytrain is a really good way to get around some parts of the city as you can go between different stations for around 20-30 THB each way. Very reasonable indeed. It is air conditioned and runs about every 8-10 minutes and the MBK centre was literally 2 stops away.
After a hectic afternoon of shopping we decided to relax in the hotel room with some more butler-served coffee. We had been upgraded to a Grand Deluxe room which gave us a view of the Royal Sports Club and you could see horse racing and golf taking place at various times of the day.
In the evening we decided to relax a little and went to the Cheese and Wine buffet that was happening in Decanter, the St Regis wine bar. It had an excellent range of meats and cheeses with a very palatable selection of champagne and wine. For 3,000 THB it was very good value as you had unlimited cheeses, meats and other buffet items together with a good selection of wines for 2 hours. Being on the 12th floor also meant you had a good view over Bangkok. It was a really mellow atmosphere and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Anyway, we are full of food and wine so it is time to go to bed. We got up the the room and a bath had been drawn for us by the butler with a really nice note. This is an excellent end to our first day in Bangkok.
