Let’s be honest, November in the UK can be a bit grim. The grey skies and early sunsets usually have me dreaming of an escape, which is exactly why I booked a trip to the Costa del Sol earlier this month.

I just got back from a stay at the Occidental Fuengirola (November 2025), and if you’re looking for a modern, seafront sanctuary to beat the winter blues, this is the spot. Here is my full review of the experience.

First Impressions and Location

The first thing that strikes you is the location. It is slap-bang on the beachfront (Paseo Marítimo), right in the heart of the action but completely serene once you step inside. The hotel itself has undergone a massive refurbishment in recent years, and it shows. Everything feels fresh, white, and incredibly modern.

The Room: Waking Up to the Mediterranean

I stayed in a Superior Room, and I cannot recommend the upgrade enough. The decor is minimalist and clean—very chic—but the real showstopper is the balcony.

Waking up, drawing back the curtains, and seeing the Mediterranean sparkling in the November sun was absolute bliss. Even in the winter months, the light here is something else. It was spacious, spotless, and the bed was incredibly comfortable—exactly what you need for a recharge.

Facilities: Yes, You Can Swim in November!

One of my biggest worries about travelling late in the year is that the hotel pools will be freezing. Not here.

The Occidental Fuengirola has a heated outdoor pool. There is something very decadent about swimming in warm water while the air is crisp and fresh. It was a highlight of the trip.

Dining: The Arrozante Experience

I stayed on a Bed and Breakfast basis. The breakfast buffet was generous with plenty of fresh fruit, pastries, and hot options to set you up for the day.

However, the culinary star of the show was undoubtedly the Arrozante restaurant within the hotel. We decided to have lunch there and I am so glad we did.

As the name suggests, they specialise in rice dishes. I had an amazing paella—authentic, rich in flavour, and cooked to perfection (getting that crispy socarrat on the bottom is an art form). The service was impeccable, and the staff were knowledgeable about the wine pairings, making the whole meal feel very special.

Evenings: Cava and Entertainment

The vibe in the evenings is lovely. You don’t even need to leave the hotel to have a good night. We spent our evenings in the Lobby Bar, sipping on a cheeky glass of cava (when in Spain, right?).

There was entertainment every night, which created a really nice atmosphere—lively enough to be fun, but relaxed enough that you could still have a conversation.

The Verdict

If you are looking for a winter getaway in 2025, the Occidental Fuengirola ticks every box. It’s modern, perfectly located, and the food is top-tier. I’ve come home feeling completely refreshed.

Highlights:

  • The Heated Pool: A game-changer for winter travel.
  • Arrozante Restaurant: You must try the paella.
  • The Views: Definitely book a Superior Room with a sea view.
